Conditional pardon No. 306.
John Gunning, b. 1788, of County Leitrim was sentenced to life imprisonment for sedition and transported to New South Wales on the ship Surrey in March 1816. He was granted a conditional pardon on the 16th of October, 1834. The pardon is signed by the Governor of New South Wales, Major General Richard Bourke. The pardon is on vellum, with a fragile seal on a separate piece of vellum tied to the sheet. Entered upon Record, on the 16th day of January 1836. On the reverse side of the pardon is a description of John Gunning, his date of birth, native place, offence, year of transportation, offence and physical characteristics.
