Description

Catalogue of an exhibition held at Gertrude Contemporary Art Spaces, Studio 12, 3 February - 4 March 2006.
A kind of offbeat, audiovisual family portrait, Ali Sandersons exhibition Spewtiful evokes humour, sentimentality, absurdity and melancholic reflecton - often simultaneously. A large video projection reveals a resplendently kitsch beach sunset, against which images of a young man and woman fade in and out, miming the lyrics to an old-time musical number. In fact, the young couple are Sanderson and her boyfriend Ben
and the music is played and performed by Bens parents, who are former amateur theatre players.
