Message on card reads "Somewhere 30/10/16. Dear Winnie, Just a card to let you know I received your nice long letter. Will answer it in the course of a few days. I think I told you that I am away from the battery for two months at a veterinary hospital. I expect the boys to be back at the Somme again. Plenty of mud these times and mud "dinkum mud" is to be seen only in France. We are all interested to learn the result of the conscription referendum. I will write to you one night this week. Yours Stan."
