Title

World War I Postcard Collection

Description

Digitised collection of a selection of World War I postcards held in the Rare Books Collection, Monash University Library. Many of these post cards have come from a bound album of an unidentified person, which appears to have been put together by a young Australian when on tour in Europe in 1911-1918. It consists mostly of published postcards of European places and war scenes that have been sent home from serviceman. The remainder of this digital collection are cards collected individually. The publishers include J. Beagles & Co. (London), A. R. (Paris), Vise (Paris), and The Daily Mirror (Canada). It includes subjects of Victory parades, troops, Nurse Edith Cavell's funeral procession, soldiers, German prisoners, battlefields, and war ravaged cities. Additionally there are several representations of silk post cards.
